No Child Should Erase Their Dreams to Write Again

Dear TS 1990 Canada and USA friends,

Imagine being a child with a hunger to learn—but no books, no proper classroom, and not even a notebook to call your own. This is the reality for many Tamil students in Houpe Estate, a remote tea plantation in the Ratnapura District. These children walk miles to attend a school that lacks even the most basic facilities. Some reuse the same exercise book over and over, erasing their work just to write again—because they simply cannot afford another.

Education should be a path out of poverty, but for these kids, it’s a daily struggle. The public school system offers little hope, and the only light comes from volunteers like my old schoolmate, who teaches them after school using his own limited resources. But staying after school means skipping their only meal of the day—unless someone steps in to help.

Today, we have a chance to be that someone.

With just a little support like $5 or $10, we can provide:

- **Exercise books** so they can write freely and learn with dignity

- A **simple meal**—even just a bun—so they don’t have to choose between hunger and education

- And eventually, a **small library** to open their minds to a world beyond the estate

This isn’t just a dream. Some of these children have already defied the odds, passing their O/Ls and moving on to A/Ls—an extraordinary achievement in their circumstances.

With the help of **TS1990 Canada & USA**, we can extend a hand to these bright, determined children with a measly contribution of $5 to $10. Let’s give them the tools to learn, grow, and build a future they deserve.

Let’s be the reason they don’t have to choose between food and education. Let’s be the reason they believe in tomorrow.
